Innovative upholstery from the circular economy
For the ZEN finishing, New ZOE showcases new upholstery using 100% recycled fabric.
For its design, Renault used the traditional process of carded yarn manufacturing, which creates a quality material "without melting" or chemical transformation. This yarn is made from safety belt scrap and plastic waste (PET) materials. This constitutes a major innovation as the use of recycled carded yarn is a first for the automotive industry. Its sourcing and short-loop manufacture conform to circular economy principles, reducing related CO2 emissions by over 60%.
Electronic “e-shifter” gear lever
The raised center console hosts a new electronic gear lever.
Above the leather, a chrome knob with satin facets is decorated with the “Z.E.” logo. It enables the easy transition, with a simple push, between driving modes, notably to enjoy the new mode designed for urban driving.

3 / Autonomy and charging: ZOE goes further and further
New ZOE has a Z.E. 50 battery which takes its range up to 390 kilometers on the WLTP*. It now also offers fast direct current charging, an addition to the alternating current charging options already available at home or on the street.
Renault’s work to continue at the forefront of increasingly high-performing battery development did not end with the introduction of the previous generation’s Z.E. 40 battery. The result: with 52 kWh, the battery Z.E. 50 for the New ZOE now offers a range of up to 390 km WLTP*, an increase of over 20%. This growth in energy capacity uses the same sized-battery, maintaining the vehicle’s comfortable habitability. The new battery Z.E. 50 even has another advantage: its ability to deliver a higher current intensity contributes to the performance of the new R135 engine.
New ZOE also is the most versatile affordable electric vehicle when it comes to charging. With its ability to take up to 22 kW from each terminal, since its inception ZOE has been the fastest-charging electric vehicle on the most prevalent recharge devices in public spaces. An additional innovation now complements this performance: the New ZOE battery can now also charge up to 50 kW on terminals that operate with direct current (DC). This new DC charge is suitable for long journeys, especially highways. New ZOE is the only affordable electric vehicle on the market to offer AC charging up to 22 kW and DC up to 50 kW.
Accompanied by custom connected services accessible via the MY Renault app, drivers are sure to always find the charging solutions they need, whether at home, work, in public parking areas or on the highway.
* WLTP autonomy (Worldwide Harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure, standardized cycle: 57% of urban journeys, 25% of suburban journeys, 18% of highway journeys), for the ZOE Life version. In the process of being approved.
“Since the start of the adventure, Groupe Renault has known that autonomy and charging time are key factors in the development of electric vehicles on a large scale. We have therefore provided the New ZOE with new possibilities in terms of its radius of action.”
Éric Blanchard, Director of Electric Vehicle Motors and Batteries Projects
A leap forward in autonomy with each generation
At its launch in late 2012, the first ZOE with its 22 kWh battery offered around 150 kilometers of real autonomy, a range that already far exceeded the daily distance traveled by the average European driver.
In 2016, Renault launched the second generation of ZOE accompanied with the arrival of the Z.E. 40 battery, whose 41 kWh saw the vehicle’s real autonomy double to 300 kilometers. Research was then focused on lithium-ion chemistry to improve the battery density.
For New ZOE, engineers focused on the architecture of the battery and the different aspects of its design. The battery successfully reaches a capacity of 52 kWh within the same volume. This translates to a 20% increase in autonomy, up to 390 km WLTP*.
- WLTP autonomy (Worldwide Harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure, standardized cycle: 57% of urban journeys, 25% of suburban journeys, 18% of highway journeys) for the ZOE Life version. In the process of being approved.
Focus on charging modes
Combo plug for more versatility
New ZOE conceals its charging socket behind the diamond decorating its grill. The charging hatch now houses Combo plug (CCS) slightly larger than the previous plug. It consists of a European standard socket, accompanied by a two-pin connector for direct current charging. The central position of the socket facilitates connections, especially on public charging stations which have their own cable.
A type-2 socket for AC charging…
The type-2 socket and the Caméléon charger are still available for everyday use. At home, at work, at the mall parking lot or on public roads, they allow a recharge of up to 22 kW.
… and a two-pin connector dedicated to DC charging
Thanks to its Combo plug, New ZOE is able to charge quickly with a direct current (DC) up to 50 kW. To benefit from this, the charging cable attached to the terminal is simply inserted into the two-pin connector below the type-2 socket.
Focus on recharge and autonomy
No need to go to the gas station ... an electric car recharges where it parks!
The Renault EASY CONNECT smart services and the Combo plug in New ZOE simplify recharging accessibility and management anywhere.
Whatever your everyday routine, the ease of charging the New ZOE is evident. At home or work, in the city, at the supermarket or the movies, on the expressway, highway and so on.
Every scenario offers enough parking time to recover a significant number of kilometers of range.
Recharge at home
Whether at a house, condo or apartment, the New ZOE can charge from 0 to 100% in 9 hours and 25 minutes using a 7 kW Wallbox. This therefore ensures that a complete recharge can comfortably be achieved overnight. Users charging their vehicle at home can also benefit from the programming options, adjusting their recharge to correspond with tariff fluctuations from their electricity supplier.
At home, my ZOE recovers around 300 kilometers of autonomy in 8 hours*.
Recharge in the city
City centers are full of charging options, whether on the street or in car parks, often with free parking. An opportunity to make the most of ZOE’s charging time by going out to a restaurant or shopping.
Connected to a public terminal with a power of 11 kW, my ZOE recovers up to 125 kilometers of autonomy in 2 hours*.
Recharge at the mall
The installation of charging stations has become a real competitive advantage for stores and malls. More and more are installing fast charging stations, often free of charge, designed to offer a significant increase in autonomy to their customers while shopping.
Connected to a public terminal with 22 kW, my ZOE regains up to 125 kilometers of autonomy in one hour*.
Recharge on the highway
Thanks to the high recharging power of its new DC charger, keeping New ZOE powered becomes part of a journey’s typical rhythm. Road trips, whether for vacation or professional reasons, naturally include breaks for having a rest or something to eat and drink. On the highway, ZOE’s new fast charging abilities builds on these breaks to recover, in just a half hour, sufficient energy to reach the next leg of the journey.
On a 50 kW DC terminal, my New ZOE stores, in 30 minutes, enough energy to travel around 150 kilometers*.
* The duration and distances mentioned here are calculated from results obtained by New ZOE during the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure, standardized cycle: 57% of urban journeys, 25% of suburban journeys, 18% of journeys on the highway), which aims to represent the actual conditions of the vehicles’ use. However, they cannot foresee the type of journey after recharging. The recharging time and the recovered range also depend on the temperature, battery wear, power delivered by the terminal, driving style and level of charge.
4 / Driving pleasure: electrifying sensations
New ZOE adds a more powerful motor, perfectly suited to the fast lane, to the intrinsic charms of electric driving, and also a new mode particularly adapted to urban driving, as well as many driving aids designed for comfort and safety.
Drivers can fully enjoy New ZOE’s increased radius of action, as its performance has been optimized for the highway. With the introduction of a 100 kW engine (R135, equivalent to 135 hp in a combustion engine), its improved torque offers even more acceleration control and responsiveness. Driving pleasure and comfort are enhanced, especially on the highway.
But urban and suburban journeys have not been forgotten. New ZOE also offers a new driving mode that simplifies city traffic. Called “B mode”, it provides intensified decelerations, allowing for the reduced use of the brake pedal.
More generally, New ZOE is the result of Renault engineers optimizing the principal technical aspects of electric car functions. This generation has been drafted on a very significantly redesigned platform in order to be at the cutting edge of electrical performance while remaining affordable. It allows to welcome innovations in chassis, motor power, battery, braking and more. For example, the electrical infrastructure has been completely redesigned to accommodate for a wide range of driving aids. As for the lighting, it is now 100% LED. Available right from entry-level specifications, its offers increased brightness of 75% compared to halogen lighting, with equivalent energy consumption.
“Driving a ZOE has always been enjoyable… and this pleasure is now tenfold with New ZOE! A new motor and new equipment give it even more high-performing qualities.”
Elisabeth Delval, Assistant Director, Renault ZOE Programme
Focus on driving pleasure
100 kW motor
Renault offers two different motors: the 80 kW (R110) motor introduced a year ago on the previous generation, and a new variant inaugurated with New ZOE, the 100 kW (R135). Engineers have used the increased-capacity battery of New ZOE (Z.E.50) to get the most out of its 100% Renault motor. The R135 brings more power, more torque and better revving. New ZOE thus benefits from an improved performance that enhances its versatility and driving pleasure, especially when overtaking or on the highway. The R135 engine has a torque of 245 Nm that allows it to go from 80 to 120 km/h in just 7.1 seconds, 2.2 seconds better than the R110 engine. It now achieves 0 to 100 km/h in less than 10 seconds. In addition, the New ZOE’s top speed has increased to 140 km/h.
New ZOE offers a new driving mode, with which the driver has almost no need to use the brake pedal. When B mode is activated, the car decelerates significantly faster as soon as the driver releases the accelerator pedal. B mode makes driving easier, especially in the city or in slowed traffic. On a technical level, its integration is accompanied by a new braking system that also improves the feel of the brake pedal. As for D mode, it remains particularly useful when the car is moving at a constant speed, on the highway for example. The driver can switch on demand between B and D modes with a simple push on the e-shifter.
New ZOE obviously has no gearbox or clutch because of its electric motor, but it still retains a gear lever to switch between different driving modes or to reverse. The mechanical lever is now replaced by an electronic device called the “e-shifter”. Simple pressure on the knob is enough to send instructions to the motor propulsion system. The selected driving mode is clearly displayed on the center console as well as on the 10-inch driver’s display. As with the automatic parking brake, New ZOE therefore extends the 100% electric experience through all its driver-friendly functions.
Renault engineering has built New ZOE with a brand new electrical infrastructure. More modern, it now allows for the integration of all the sensors and automated functions that are essential for the new driver assistance systems (ADAS). They are designed to better inform the driver, simplify driving, for example during parking maneuvers, and enhance safety.
Recognition of traffic signals
The system detects speed limit signs on the roadside and displays the speed limit in real time.
Automatic dimming of high beams
The car automatically switches from high beam to low beam when a vehicle is detected coming in the opposite direction.
Blind spot warning
This feature warns the driver when a vehicle or obstruction is in New ZOE’s blind spot.
Automatic hold assistance (Auto-Hold)
The Auto-Hold function keeps the vehicle at a stop when the driver releases the brake pedal. Driving comfort is improved, especially in congested traffic.
Displayed as a road sign notification on the 10-inch driver’s screen, the excessive speed alert warns the driver when the vehicle is going faster than the speed limit, as determined by on-board cameras and the GPS navigation.
Automatic emergency braking
The system makes it possible to detect an emergency braking situation. In this scenario, the brake assist instantly applies its maximum power.
Lane departure warning
The lane departure warning uses a visual signal and steering wheel vibrations to warn the driver when accidentally crossing a continuous or discontinuous line.
Lane keep assist
When the driver's hands are placed on the steering wheel, the lane keep assist analyzes the movements and corrects any trajectory errors, according to the position of the vehicle relative to the road lines.
The EASY PARK ASSIST system controls the steering so that the driver only has to manage the pedals and the driving modes.
Front, rear and sides parking radar
Built-in sensors at the front, rear and sides of the vehicle detect obstacles at 360-degrees when maneuvering. They act as a complement to the rear view camera.
Automatic parking brake
The automatic parking brake prevents having to apply the parking brake before leaving the vehicle or when starting on hills. Driving ergonomics are reinforced. Another advantage is the lack of lever, freeing up space in the center console to accommodate smartphone charging through induction.
5 / Renault EASY CONNECT: a simplified experience from start to finish
